Volunteers

A number of resourceful and caring volunteers attend the office of Scleroderma Victoria at St. Vincent’s Hospital each week. Without their help, reaching out to members of our community with Scleroderma and their families would be impossible. We therefore take this opportunity to acknowledge their support.

Robyn Sims - Office and Volunteer Coordinator

Robyn first heard the word “Scleroderma” when her eldest daughter, Nia, was diagnosed over ten years ago. Robyn was hesitant to become involved with Scleroderma Victoria for various reasons but then joined in 2005 and became Office Coordinator.

Robyn has three children, three grandchildren and one more on the way. She enjoys her work and likes to travel, read, go to the movies, gardening, dabbling in drawing and painting and is addicted to the Sudoku Puzzles and Facebook Scrabble. Robyn has told us she dislikes cooking, alarm clocks, arguments and walking up hills!

Being part of Scleroderma Victoria has helped Robyn feel there is something she can do, not just for herself and her daughter, but others. It has helped her with the frustrating aspect of Scleroderma.

Jenny Hooke - Publications

When Jenny attended her first meeting at Scleroderma Victoria eight years ago her skills as a Graphic Designer were quickly utilised. As a committee member she was delegated to editing our Newsletter and also became an office volunteer. Jenny was diagnosed with Scleroderma in 1985. She enjoys walking along the beach, singing in the church choir and all the joy that music can bring to our lives.

Graham Copsey

Graham was diagnosed with Scleroderma in 1986 and has been a volunteer in the office for many years. He is also relied upon when it comes time for our Newsletter Distribution. He is a very busy man with eight wonderful grandchildren who keep him very busy.

Mary O’Shaughnessy

Mary first became involved with Scleroderma Victoria when a family member was diagnosed with the disease. This was 25 years ago. Over the years she has been on the committee and helped in various ways. She attends the office on a rostered basis with Jean. Mary enjoys her home and family. She likes to go to the movies and catching up with friends.

Jean Lapthorne

Jean is a good friend of Mary and together they have been volunteering at the office for many years. Jean has an amazing amount of interests. She is a volunteer with the Genealogy Society, Provost, and the Parkdale Library, to name but a few, but her main passion is Genealogy. She enjoys her garden and walks and of course her catch up with Mary on their rostered day at the office.

Liz Strodl

Liz found her way to Scleroderma Victoria through our web page after being diagnosed with Scleroderma in 2002. She joined the Foundation in 2005 and has found that being a member has given her the opportunity to make new contacts and gain support of other Foundation members, particularly the Young Members Group. She became a volunteer at our office only recently. She keeps busy with her Graphic Design career, cooking and the garden. As her husband has a pilot’s license a weekend away is something special. Their trip to King Island was one of their flying highlights.

Miriam Jusic

Miriam lives in St Albans, has two adult children and much loved grandchildren. She has been involved with Scleroderma Victoria for many years and after coming along to help with our Newsletter, was only too happy to become a member of our Volunteer team. Miriam has had Scleroderma for over 30 years and is a wonderful example of someone living life well with Scleroderma.

Sue Griffiths

Sue joined our Volunteer team in 2009. Up until this time, Sue was in full time employment. As with many of our members, an opportunity arose for her to join as a Volunteer when she saw a notice in our Newsletter. Sue has had Scleroderma for many years.
